Statesmen Move Up To No. 5 In USCHO.com Poll

The Hobart College hockey team moved up one spot to No. 5 in this week’s USCHO.com poll and remained at No. 3 in this week’s D3hockey.com poll. The Statesmen are 12-2-2 overall and 5-1-0 in ECAC West play.

Hobart earned wins over Curry and Salve Regina in the Vineyard Classic over the weekend, extending its unbeaten streak to eight games. There are only five teams in Division III that are riding longer unbeaten streaks.

The Statesmen lead the ECAC West and rank eighth in the nation in scoring defense allowing an average of 1.94 goals per game. Hobart ranks second in the league and ninth in the country on the penalty kill (89.0 percent) and second in conference and 10th in Division III in scoring offense (3.94 goals per game).

Senior Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) leads the team with 10 goals and 17 points. Senior Ben Gamache (Longlac, Ontario) has also logged a team-high 17 points. He has chipped in a team-high 14 assists. Gamache ranks 12th in the nation in assists per game (0.93). Sophomore Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) has played the last four games in goal. He’s sporting a .914 save percentage, a 2.25 goals against average and a 4-1-0 record.

Hobart will be back in action this weekend, when it hosts Nazareth for two ECAC West games. The teams meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 and again on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m.
