St. Mary’s of Lancaster Wins First Title

St. Mary’s of Lancaster, in their Third year of play, defeated Monsignor Martin for the Private School Championship. However, it took 5 periods of hockey to do it.

Monsignor Martin, familiar to all of us as a championship team in the WNYGVIH Federation over the 14 years, got on the boards first with a goal by Gabby Kazmark, assisted by Avery McDonald and Norah Carroll with 5:50 left in the first period.

MonMar is up 1-0 as the game goes into the second. St. Mary’s jumps on the scoreboard as Avery Szczesek scores an unassisted goal early in the second. MonMar answers that back when McDonald scores, assisted by Kazmark and Addison Cherry. With just over five minutes left in the period St. Mary’s Donnelly gets her second of the game, assisted by Avery Szczesek and Lauren Gilano tying the game at 2-2.

No scoring in the third period and the games goes to overtime #1. No score. Overtime #2 and St. Mary’s Alana Pagano scores the game-winner, assisted by Szczesek. It ends 3-2 St Mary’s.

In goal for MonMar was Kate Kelley and for St. Mary’s Avery Hall. (No stats on SOG). Hall was named MVP of the Game.
