Six teams will be participating in the 18th annual Super Sunday Western New York High School Club Hockey Championships. The event will be played on Monday, Feb. 25 at KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo.

At a press conference held at KeyBank Center on Wednesday, Feb. 20 WNY High School Club Hockey League President, Steve Ferrentino, introduced coaches and players from each of the six teams playing.

The 4 p.m. game will feature St. Mary’s of Lancaster playing East Aurora/Holland. The winner will be crowned the Small School Champion.

At 6 p.m. the Large School Championship contest will have Canisius taking on Orchard Park.

The final game of the evening will feature the ELPS Varsity (which includes Eden and Lake Shore High Schools) playing Roy-Hart/Barker/Medina. The winner will take home the title of Mixed School Champion.

Former Buffalo Sabres player and Western New York native, Patrick Kaleta, now a Youth Hockey Ambassador for the Sabres, spoke briefly to the players and their coaches.

“The main thing you want to remember about a game like this that you have coming up is to have fun and enjoy the day,” said Kaleta. “Enjoy being part of a team.

“Enjoy the moment. It may only happen once in your life and this might be that moment.

“So enjoy it.”
