Jack Quinn opened scoring at 8:01 of the first period and 8 minutes later Ottawa scored tying the game 1-1 at the end of the first.
Ottawa gets on the board at 3:58 of the second but then it was Buffalo with four straight goals in the second giving them a 5-2 lead after the second.
Ottawa put in two just 40 seconds and 2:15 of the third making it 5-4 early in the third. Buffalo rebounded with goals from Ryan McLeod, Quinn and a final one by Jiri Kulich to end the game 8-4 and give the Buffalo Sabres their first win of the season.
