BUFFALO, N.Y. (January 14, 2016) — The Buffalo Sabres Green Team today announced that they will be partnering with the Amanda Hansen Foundation and holding a carbon monoxide detector drive at the upcoming home game against Washington on Jan. 16 as a part of Carbon Monoxide Awareness month.

All fans who bring a new carbon monoxide detector to the game will receive a pair of tickets to the Buffalo Auto Show from Feb. 11 to 14 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Collectors will be located at all entrances to the First Niagara Center starting at 5 p.m. up until game time at 7 p.m.

The Amanda Hansen Foundation is a not for profit organization that supplies carbon monoxide detectors to those families that cannot afford them. The foundation was started by Kim and Ken Hansen, who lost their only daughter Amanda in 2009 after she slept over a friend’s house that had high levels of carbon monoxide in the home.

“I can’t tell you how thankful I am that the Buffalo Sabres will be honoring our daughter Amanda on the eve of the anniversary of her death,” said Ken Hansen, president of the Amanda Hansen Foundation. “She was such a special young lady with a beautiful heart and soul and to have her memory honored – I’m speechless.”

The Sabres Green Team and the Amanda Hansen Foundation would like to thank National Fuel, JW Danforth, First Alert, Lowe’s and the Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association for their donations to the cause.

If you cannot attend the game and would still like to make a donation, you may drop off carbon monoxide detectors to the office of Assemblyman Michael Kearns at 1074 Union Road, West Seneca, N.Y.

The Buffalo Sabres are dedicated to the sustainability of the environment in Western New York and Southern Ontario through the “Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative.” The organization is committed to creating programming to help our fans reduce their environmental footprint and at the same time, educate Sabres fans on conservation issues, teaching fans how to be greener, and directing them to additional resources where they can learn more about environmental issues.

The Buffalo Sabres Green Team is presented by National Fuel’s conservation incentive program and proudly supported by our green partner Modern Recycling.
