TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey captains have been announced and seniors Jared Wilson, Viktor Liljegren and Mike Prapavessis will lead the Engineers throughtout the 2017-18 season. The announcement was made by first-year head coach Dave Smith.

A defenseman from Calgary, Alb., Wilson played in all 37 games for Rensselaer last season, leading all blueliners with 17 points on 11 goals and six assists. Six of his tallies came on the power play, while a team-high four were game-winners. He was assessed 33 penalties for 77 minutes.

In 22 ECAC Hockey contests, Wilson six goals and three assists for nine points, with two man advantage tallies and two game-winners. Through 114 career games at RPI, the former Vernon Vipers standout has 20 goals and 18 assists for 38 points.

A forward out of Stockholm, Sweden, Liljegren was fourth on the team in scoring last year with 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points. He had five power play goals and was assessed 18 minor penalties for 36 minutes.

Appearing in all 22 ECAC Hockey games, Liljegren scored seven goals and added six assists for 13 points. He picked up three power play tallies, while taking 10 penalties for 20 minutes. A former member of the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, he has 45 career points on 22 goals and 23 assists in 117 games at RPI.

Prapavessis, a defenseman who hails from Oakville, Ont., played in 36 games last season, totaling two goals and 14 assists for 16 points. Both of his goals came on the power play and he picked up 17 penalties for 34 minutes, with 35 shots.

In 21 league games, Prapavessis had one goal and 12 assists for 13 points. He had one power play tally and took 10 penalties for 20 minutes. An alumni of the Toronto Patriots, he has played in 117 games at Rensselaer, scoring seven goals and assisting 36 more for 43 points.

RPI hosts St. Mary’s University in an exhibition game at the Houston Field House on Saturday (5pm). The Engineers begin their regular season schedule on October 13 and 14, when they travel to Ohio State for a two-game series.
