(Rochester, NY)… The Rochester Americans are proud to support USA Hockey’s Hockey Weekend Across America, scheduled for Feb. 20 to Feb. 22, 2015.

On Friday, Feb. 20, when the Amerks host the Texas Stars at 7:05 p.m., the team will welcome Neal Broten, a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team that upset the Soviet Union in the famed “Miracle on Ice” before going on to capture the gold medal. Following the Miracle on Ice, Broten went on to play more than 1,000 NHL games and won a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1995. Broten will sign autographs prior to the Feb. 20 Amerks game as part of the Seneca Casinos Legends Night series.

The following night, Broten and his Miracle on Ice teammates will be in Lake Placid, N.Y. for an exclusive event at Herb Brooks Arena using video, audio and photos to “Relive the Miracle” through their perspective in honor of the 35th anniversary of their historic achievement. General admission tickets for the event will be $19.80 and available at www.miracleonicereunion.com and the Olympic Center box office in Lake Placid.

Friday, Feb. 20 is also USA Hockey’s “Wear Your Favorite Jersey” Day. Amerks fans who wear their favorite jersey to work or school are encouraged to send photos to the Amerks’ official Facebook and Twitter accounts for the team to share.

Saturday, Feb. 21, is “Try Hockey Day,” as hundreds of rinks nationwide will host Try Hockey for Free clinics, allowing thousands of children to experience hockey for the first time.

Members of the Amerks will be assisting the Sled Hockey “Try Hockey For Free” event at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex at 2:00 p.m. Sled Hockey provides the opportunity for individuals with various types of disabilities to participate in ice hockey and follows most of the traditional ice hockey rules. Participants sit on bladed sleds and use shortened hockey sticks with a blade on one end and a pick on the other end, which enables them to propel themselves across the ice.
Other local Try Hockey For Free events include:

· 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.: Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex – 2700 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Rd, Brighton, NY 14623
