ROCHESTER, NY – Senior forward Myles Powell (Courtenay, British Columbia/Cowichan Valley Capitals) of the RIT men’s hockey team is one of 74 candidates for the 2018 Hobey Baker Award, college hockey’s most prestigious individual honor. Tiger fans are encouraged to vote for Powell at www.voteforhobey.com.

Powell leads the Tigers in scoring with 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists in 21 games this season. A two-year team captain, Powell leads the Tigers with a plus-8 rating in 2017-18 and has 88 career points on 40 goals and 48 assists.

This first phase of fan balloting will run now through March 4, 2018. Phase two of fan balloting will begin on March 14 from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists and will close March 25.

Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award’s namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America’s greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton.

Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game.

Powell will look to become RIT’s third Hobey Baker top-10 finalist, joining Simon Lambert (2008) and Matt Garbowsky (2015).
