ST. CHARLES, MO — The RIT women’s hockey team (2-14-0, 1-5-0 College Hockey America) was victorious 2-1 in the second game of the conference series at Lindenwood (1-10-1, 1-4-1 CHA) on Saturday at Lindenwood Ice Arena. The win was RIT’s first in league play this season.

Caitlin Wallace (Brantford, Ontario/Assumption Collegiate) and Kathryn Kennedy (Hamilton, Ontario) had the goals for the Tigers, both their third of the season. Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) added an assist on Wallace’s goal, pushing her to a tie with Wallace at the top on the team with six points (three goals and three assists) this season. Cornine has now scored a point in three of the last four games.

Freshman goalie Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) was strong between the pipes, picking up her second win of the season, stopping 29 shots. She was clutch in the third period, stopping all 11 shots, as the Lady Lions searched for the tying goal.

“The team had a great attitude coming into today’s game,” said Bruce B. Bates Women’s Head Coach Scott McDonald. “Last night they played hard but didn’t get the results. Tonight they competed for 60 minutes and showed great poise to finish off the game.

Neither team scored in the opening period, despite a power-play opportunity for each team.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first, as Caitlin Wallace (Brantford, Ontario/Assumption Collegiate) put her first shot into the twine, off an assist from Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard), 2:51 into the period. The Lady Lions came right back 31 seconds later, tying the game on Courtney Ganske’s first collegiate goal. As the second period came to a close, Kathryn Kennedy (Hamilton, Ontario) scored, putting the Tigers ahead 2-1 with 48 seconds left.

The Tigers were 0-for- 4 on the power-play, but were able to kill off all three of the Lady Lions’ power-plays. Lindenwood nearly out-shot RIT 30-28 in the game.

The Tigers return to play next weekend, in a two-game series at ECAC foe Rensselaer. Friday’s game will begin at 4 p.m., and Saturday’s gets underway at 2 p.m.
