RIT Women’s Hockey Splits Weekend Series with Syracuse

    Friday Night

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT women’s hockey team lost 5-2 to Syracuse in Atlantic Hockey America action, Friday.

    HOW IT HAPPENED:

    • Jordan Blouin scored a power play goal at 16:19 of the first period to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead.
    • RIT fired nine shots on net in the opening frame, including two each from first year defender Laura Dyke and junior defender Emma Pickering.
    • Peyton Armstrong scored 7:07 into the second period to give the Orange a 2-0 lead.
    • Rachel Walsh tallied a power play goal at 18:57 and Nea Tervonen scored a power play goal at 19:46 to extend Syracuse’s lead to 4-0.
    • First year defender Riley Gramlich scored a power play goal 57 seconds into the third period to cut the Orange lead to 4-1.
    • Sophomore forward Ireland Stein scored off an assist from junior forward Linda Rulle at 10:48 of the third to cut the Syracuse lead to 4-2.
    • Sami Gendron scored an empty-net goal at 18:46 of the third to make it a 5-2 final.

    GAME NOTES:

    • RIT outshot Syracuse, 31-24.
    • The Tigers went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Orange were 3-for-5.
    • Senior goalie Sophia Bellina made 12 saves in net for the Tigers and sophomore Brenna McNamara made seven saves in the third period.

    Saturday Night

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. – RIT first year forward Tilli Keranen scored the game-winning goal in the Tigers 4-1 win at Syracuse, Saturday.

    HOW IT HAPPENED:

    • Jackson Kinsler scored 6:55 into the first period to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead.
    • Junior forward Linda Rulle tied the game at 1-1 on her power play goal at 15:33 of the opening frame.
    • Keranen scored at 9:25 of the second period off an assist from senior forward Lexi Sung to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. She fired a wrist-shot from the slot into the corner for her third goal of the season.
    • First year forward Kolbee Ashe scored 7:09 into the third period to extend RIT’s lead to 3-1 lead. She stole a loose puck at center-ice and skated into the Syracuse zone, scoring on a wrist shot into the top corner.
    • Junior forward Addie Alvarez scored an empty-net goal at 16:58 of the third period to make it a 4-1 final.

    GAME NOTES:

    • RIT outshot Syracuse, 32-29.
    • The Tigers went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Orange were 0-for-4.
    • Senior goalie Sophia Bellina made 28 saves to earn the win in net for the Tigers.
    • It is RIT’s first win at Syracuse since a 4-1 win on Dec. 1, 2023.

    RIT returns to action on Friday (Oct. 31) against Lindenwood at 3:00 p.m.
