RIT Jerseys On Auction Block for Charity

The RIT women’s hockey team is auctioning off its special puzzle piece jerseys from noon on Wednesday, Feb. 12 to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 19. with all proceeds going to AutismUp through the RIT United Way campaign. The Tigers wore these special jerseys on Jan. 25 vs. Lindenwood as part of the College Hockey America’s “Skate for the Cure”. Fans can bid on the jerseys at http://www.rit.edu/studentaffairs/autismup/. Bidding begins at $150 per jersey.

AutismUp is the leading 501(c)3 autism organization in Rochester and the surrounding areas. Founded in 2004, by a small group of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), our mission is to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their families, by expanding and enhancing opportunities to improve quality of life. AutismUp has grown to include over 1,000 family and professional members. The efforts of AutismUp have reached thousands in the Upstate New York area to raise awareness of the autism epidemic and to strengthen the abilities and increase the success of individuals with ASD. We provide support and education to individuals with ASD, their families, and professional service providers.

Last year, the Tigers raised $5,939.86 for CURE Childhood Cancer Association in its “Skate for the Cure” game. In years past, RIT has raised money for the Wounded Warriors Project, Rochester General Hospital’s Lipson Cancer Center, and Geneva General Cardiology Associates with various jerseys auction initaitives.

The Tigers return to action this weekend with a pair of contests vs. CHA foe, No. 9 Robert Morris at 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday from Ritter Arena. The Tigers have just three regular season home games left at Ritter Arena before moving into the Gene Polisseni Center for the 2014-15 season.

Janet has been covering women's hockey for over 35 years. Along with a 38 year career in Public Relations and over 40 years photographing sports, she found a passion in women's hockey. Her initial story was on the founding of the Niagara University D1 program, she expanded to collegiate and youth and was active in the founding and promoting of the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation. When Professional Women's Hockey hit the ice she was there, one of the first to release the story in WNY. Along with her husband, Randy, people comment that if there's hockey, the Schultz's are there!
