Men’s Hockey Makes Both Polls After Weekend Sweep

HAMILTON – After their fourth ECAC Hockey weekend sweep of the season, the Raiders are now in both national polls.

Colgate (16-11-5, 12-5-3 ECAC) jumped into the USA Hockey/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll for the first time this season at No. 15. The Raiders moved up three spots to 16th in the USCHO National Poll.

Colgate has been rolling in the second half of the season with a 9-2-3 record in its last 14 games, including two wins last weekend where the Raiders outscored their opponents by a 9-2 margin. Colgate’s schedule has not been easy either with eight games against ranked opponents and the Raiders are 5-1-2 in those games and 7-6-2 versus fellow top-20 schools.

The Raiders clinched a first-round bye in the upcoming ECAC Hockey Tournament with the two wins over the weekend. Colgate sits alone in second place with 27 points and can finish no lower than fourth in the league. Tickets for the quarterfinals will be on sale at a later date.

The Spink twins both had impressive weekends with Tyson Spink tallying his first career multi-goal game with a hat trick in a 6-1 win over Princeton. Tylor Spink added two goals and two assists in the two wins, including two goals in the 3-1 victory at No. 5 Quinnipiac. Both had gamewinners and a plus-4 rating. The sophomore class continues to dominate the score sheet as the Class of 2016 scored eight of the nine goals scored over the weekend.

Charlie Finn resumed his steady play in net and has now earned a 13-5-4 record this season and has an amazing 9-1-3 record since the start of 2014. He ranks in the top-5 in each goaltending category in league play. He has a 2.16 goals against average and a .923 save percentage in 17 league games. His numbers are impressive in 2014 with a 1.89 GAA and a .934 save percentage.

The Raiders joined four other ECAC Hockey teams in the rankings. Union remained at No. 3, while Quinnipiac dropped to eighth after falling to Colgate and Cornell. Yale fell to 15th in the poll.

Colgate has two games left in the regular season and they are home this weekend against Harvard and Dartmouth. The Raiders are honoring their two seniors prior to Saturday’s game against the Big Green.
