POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey player Samantha White (Oceanside, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) has been named the Northeast Women’s Hockey League’s Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 14. It’s the third time this season that she has claimed the honor.

The freshman goaltender was 2-0 this week with a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .959 save percentage in two starts. White made 26 saves as the Bears defeated Hamilton College 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon for the first time in program history. On Sunday, after having to wait a day due to a snowstorm, the freshman stopped 21 shots in a 3-1 win over NEWHL rival Oswego.

This season, White is 5-1-1 with a 1.28 goals-against-average and a .955 save percentage. Nationally, she ranks ninth in goals against, fourth in save percentage and 10th in winning percentage. She is third in each category in the NEWHL, only trailing upperclassmen.

The Bears are back in action this Friday at 7 p.m. when they host Buffalo State. They then host the Bengals again at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
