Plattsburgh Skates Past Cortland, 5-1

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Five different players scored a goal as the nationally second-ranked Plattsburgh women’s ice hockey team skated to a 5-1 win versus Cortland Sunday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 5-13-2 overall and 4-8-2 in the conference. The Cardinals improved to 17-2-2 and 13-2.

Junior Niamh O’Connor (Paramus, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) netted Cortland’s goal with sophomore Josie Fletcher (Wasilla, AK/Alaska All-Stars) recording an assist. Sophomore goalie Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) made 45 saves.

Freshman Kayla Meneghin (Clifton, NJ/The Gunnery) led Plattsburgh with one goal and two assists. Senior Alyssa Parke (Lynbrook/National Sports Academy) and sophomore Jordan Lipson (Davis, CA/Pomfret Prep) each recorded one goal and one assist, senior Morgan MacInnis (Cornwall, ON/Nepean Jr. Wildcats) and sophomore Erin Brand (Long Beach/Syracuse University) scored one goal apiece, while three others contributed an assist. Sophomore goalie Camille Leonard (Oakville, ON/Oakville Jr. Hornets) stopped 13 shots.

The Cardinals grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals from MacInnis at 6:32 and Meneghin at 7:55. Plattsburgh extended the lead to 4-0 through 40 minutes of play as Brand tallied an unassisted goal at 4:27 and Parke scored at 15:16. Lipson’s short-handed goal at 10:05 of the third period upped the lead to 5-0 before O’Connor netted her fourth goal of the season right after Fletcher won a faceoff at the left circle for the 5-1 final.
