Plattsburgh Defeats Fredonia, 9-0

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team finished its western New York trip picking up the weekend sweep after defeating Fredonia State 9-0

Plattsburgh State would get on the board a mere 26 seconds in when Luke Baleshta would win a draw in the Fredonia zone back to Alex Brenton. Brenton took the puck in to the slot before firing a shot beating Blue Devil goalie Jeff Flager.

Freshman Brandon O’Quinn would make it 2-0 Cardinals just over minute after the Benton goal. Connor Tommy raced down the right hand boards before sliding a pass to O’Quinn in the slot leading to the goal.

O’Quinn and Toomey would pick up assists on the third goal when defenseman Rich Botting would light the lamp to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead after the first period.

The Cardinals would score five goals in the second period including the first two on the power play.

Brenton would score his second of the game to make it 4-0 while O’Quinn would get his second of the game later in the second period.

Mark Constantine, Michael Cassidy and Luke Baleshta would all each tallied goals in the second period.

The Cardinals would score one more in the third period for good measure as senior captain Brandon Beadow would get his second of the season.

Brady Rouleau started in net again for the Cardinals picking-up back to back shutouts making 22 saves. Fredonia would use a platoon of goalies as Flagler would get the start before getting pulled after allowing six goals. Chris Eiserman would come on in relief picking up 20 saves on 23 shots.

Plattsburgh State now goes to 16-5-1 and 12-2-0 in the SUNYAC as they remain in the top spot in the SUNYAC standings.

The Cardinals will return to the road to take on Canton in a non-conference game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
