Beauts Add Goaltending Coach

0

BUFFALO –Buffalo Beauts head coach Rhea Coad has finalized her coaching staff for the 2021-22 NWHL season. The team announced today that Shane Madolora will join the Beauts as the team’s new goaltending coach. He is the owner and founder of the Madolora Consulting and Development hockey clinic, and is also the goaltending coach for the Rochester Institute of Technology’s (RIT) men’s hockey team.

“In the Beauts organization we believe in giving our players the best possible experience,” said Coad. “We believe that adding Shane to our staff adds quality to our players’ overall experience. We are not only excited to have Shane’s goalie IQ, but also to have someone with his knowledge of the game.”

Madolora played three seasons as a goaltender for RIT from 2009-2012. He set program records with a 1.98 goals against average, a .932 save percentage, and 13 shutouts. Madolora went 36-14-12 during his collegiate career while appearing in 65 contests for the Tigers. His 36 career wins are third most by a RIT netminder at the NCAA Division I level.

Madolora went on to play professionally in the CHL, ECHL and SPHL in North America. He continued his professional playing overseas with stops in France, Italy and England. During his playing career, Madolora backstopped numerous championship winning teams, including the 2006-07 St. Louis Bandits (NAHL) the 2007-08 Omaha Lancers (USHL) the NCAA Division I RIT Tigers in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, Italy’s Serie A Valpellice Bulldogs in 2015, and England’s Nottingham Panthers 2016 in the EIHL.

Outside of his own playing career, the goal of Madolora’s consulting group has been to provide youth athletes, families, and organizations the opportunity to develop and learn from elite level coaches that have had playing and/or coaching experience at the highest levels of hockey. This is achieved all while providing them with the tools necessary to reach their goals and to have success throughout their own hockey journeys.

Madolora now intends to bring this same mindset and approach to the Beauts organization.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the Beauts organization to aid in goaltending development for the goaltenders next season,” said Madolora. “I have heard nothing but great things about current goaltenders Carly Jackson and Caty Flagg. I look forward to getting to know them both and helping elevate their skills to new heights as we strive for an Isobel Cup Championship next season. I want to thank Nate Oliver, Rhea Coad, Mark Zarbo, and the rest of the Beauts staff and organization for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get on the ice with the Beauts team in the fall.”

A late addition to the Beauts roster for Lake Placid in 2020-21, Wasylk is looking forward to being back with the team for a much more regular duration.

“I could not be more excited to re-sign with the Buffalo Beauts,” she said. “I hold so much respect for the players, coaches and management that make up this team and organization as a whole. I had an incredible first experience with the team in Lake Placid in January and I am looking forward to carrying that into the 2021-2022 season.”

In nine career NWHL games spent between the Beauts and the Boston Pride, Wasylk has recorded four assists. Her first professional season came in 2017-18 when she suited up for the CWHL’s Boston Blades and went 3-2-5 for scoring in 12 regular season games. Ganser Signs With The Beauts

0

BUFFALO – The Buffalo Beauts announced that their first of three 2021 3rd-round draft selections has signed with the team. Chosen 13th overall in the recent NWHL Draft, center Kennedy Ganser is now beginning her professional career. Becoming a Beaut is something she views as a dream come true.

“It still feels pretty surreal to have been drafted by the Beauts,” said Ganser. “Growing up, I had always hoped that there would be a ‘women’s NHL’. Now that I have that opportunity, it is pretty exciting.”

A native of Provost, Alberta, Canada, Ganser is the second player in Beauts history to be drafted from the University of Alberta. She had double digits in assists and points for the Pandas in each season from 2016-17 through 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the 2020-21 U SPORTS season. Ganser produced numbers of 34 goals, 51 assists, and 85 points in 112 games – an average of 0.76 points per game. She not only was part of the Pandas’ U SPORTS Championship winning team in 2016-17, but was named U SPORTS West’s Rookie of the Year and was named to the Canada West’s All-Rookie Team that season as well.

“When you look at Gans’ production and her achievements with the Pandas, we were pretty elated to get her in the draft,” said Beauts General Manager Nate Oliver. “Now she is under contract, and we anticipate that she is going to be an impact player right off the bat. I have a lot of respect for (Pandas head coach) Howie Draper and he told me quite bluntly, ‘Nate – Kennedy is going to be your favorite player.’ Gans has a great blend of physicality and finesse.”

With the Beauts Ganser will rejoin her former University of Alberta winger Autumn MacDougall. The two formed a deadly combination for the Pandas and hope to do so once more in Buffalo.

“Auttie and I always seem to know where each other are out on the ice,” Ganser said. “We have different styles of play that seem to compliment each other quite well.

Forward-defender Brittany Colton has re-signed with the team, while Buffalo also inked former Metropolitan Riveters defender Samantha Fieseler.  Colton and Fieseler are the 13th and 14th players respectively to be signed by the Beauts this offseason.

“Britt is a tremendous role player for us and always has a smile on her face,” said Beauts General Manager Nate Oliver. “She can play either forward or defense, which is a great option for us to have. While Britt’s strengths are more on the defensive side, she can play on the topmost line like she did at Maine if called upon to do so.”

“Likewise, we really wanted to add further depth to our blue line and that is why we brought in Sam Fieseler. Sam was at our free agent tryouts and she literally earned herself a spot onto the Beauts roster with a strong showing. She has good professional experience already with Göteborg and the Rivs.”

In 133 NCAA games, Colton went 9-18-27 in scoring.

Fieseler was a member of the Metropolitan Riveters in 2020-21 but was not in Lake Placid for the NWHL’s Season 6. Canisius hockey head coach Trevor Large announced the addition of Max Mobley to his staff as an assistant coach on Wednesday.

“Max is a terrific addition to our staff,” Large said. “He is passionate, professional and has the positive energy to enhance our current players’ development as well as the experience to drive our recruiting efforts. Max brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience as a player and coach at the Division I level. I am excited for our staff and players to bring such a quality person and coach to our program.”

Mobley makes his way to Main Street after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Atlantic Hockey Association foe Holy Cross.

In his two seasons with the Crusaders, Mobley served as the program’s recruiting coordinator and also headed the skills development program for the team’s forwards. He aided in the development of All-AHA Eastern Pod Second Team selection Matt Slick and was also influential in the maturation of a forward group that saw three players record double-digit goals during the 2019-20 campaign.

I’m extremely excited to join the Canisius Hockey staff and want to thank Coach Large for giving me this opportunity, Mobley said. “I have the utmost respect for Trevor, both as a coach and as a person. He’s a great hockey mind as well as a genuine person, invested in developing relationships with players – both past and present. It was a very easy decision for me to join the Golden Griffins.

“Canisius has developed a great reputation of consistently competing as one of the top teams in Atlantic Hockey, and I’m looking forward to continuing the push towards winning conference championships and competing in the national tournament. I know this group is hungry to accomplish both goals, so I can’t wait to get started.”

Before his stint at Holy Cross, Mobley spent the 2018-19 season as a volunteer coach at Notre Dame. He aided the Fighting Irish coaching staff during a highly-successful campaign that saw the team earn a No. 1 national ranking, capture the B1G Ten Tournament Championship, and advance to the finals of the NCAA Northeast Regional.

Prior to his time in South Bend, Mobley worked for four seasons at Hamilton College (2014-18) as an assistant coach. He oversaw the Continentals’ individual skill development and coached the team’s penalty kill unit, which ranked among the top five nationally in that category in back-to-back seasons.

As the co-head of recruiting at Hamilton, Mobley was instrumental in helping construct the 2016-17 squad that captured the NESCAC Regular Season Championship, won its first NCAA Tournament game and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. As a member of the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year, Mobley helped the Continentals set program records in both wins (22) and goals scored (92) during the 2016-17 season while also ranking among the top five teams nationally in scoring defense (1.86).

A native of Glendale, Ariz., Mobley began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, St. Lawrence University, during the 2013-14 season.

As a four-year letterwinner with the Saints from 2008-12, Mobley earned the ECAC Student-Athlete award three times during his collegiate career (2010-2012).  He went on to play professionally in the ECHL and SPHL after graduating with a history degree from St. Lawrence in 2012.
