Oswego Women Shut Out Cortland

Cortland, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team shutout Cortland 3-0 on the road Friday night. With the win, the Lakers improve to 13-6-1 overall and 7-3-1 in ECAC West play while the Red Dragons fall to 2-16-2, 1-9-1.

Oswego outshot Cortland nearly 2-to-1 (30-16) in the contest while capitalizing on two of its three power-play opportunities. The Lakers also controlled the puck, winning 27-of-44 faceoffs on the night.

Cortland was whistled for holding at 10:13 of the first period and Oswego was quick to take advantage. At 11:31, over a minute into the power-play opportunity, Leslie Jarvis netted a goal off of passes from Chelsea Hunt and Melissa Seamont.

The Lakers would take the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission. Oswego came out just as opportunistic in the second period as it had been in the first. The Red Dragons were nabbed for roughing at 2:19 and Jocelyn St. Clairwould make the penalty hurt. At 3:28, St. Clair buried a goal with fellow captain Maddy Paul and freshman Kendall Appelbaum earning assists.

Oswego’s final goal came at even strength in the second period, as Bailee Goodon scored from Alli Ullrich to make it 3-0 at 8:54.

Tori Trovato earned her second-straight win, stopping 16 shots from Cortland.
