OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego scored three goals in just over two minutes of the third period to avert an upset loss to Fredonia, 5-3, in SUNYAC men’s hockey.

The Blue Devils (3-3-1 overall, 2-2 SUNYAC) led 3-1 before the outburst by the Lakers, ranked No. 9 this week by USCHO.com.

Tanner Spink scored at 10:23, Aaron Huffnagle at 11:58, and Josh Zizek at 12:39. The goals by Huffnagle and Zizek — the eventual game-winner — came on an Oswego power play.

The Blue Devils got goals from Sam Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.), Mike Freeman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), and Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa.) while goaltender Erik Bogart (London, Ont.) made 37 saves.

The Blue Devils were attempting to defeat a ranked team for the second time this season. They edged edged Geneseo, 4-3, on Nov. 4 when the Knights were ranked No. 6.

The goals by Wilbur and Polachek came on power plays, an area where Fredonia had been struggling. They had only three goals with a man-advantage prior to Friday, and equaled that number over the weekend — including a power-play tally by Wilbur in a 2-1 win Friday at Cortland. He had a goal and an assist in each game.
