ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision at Nazareth College on Saturday night. With the loss, Oswego drops to 7-6-2 on the year while the Golden Flyers improve to 4-6-4.

Nazareth scored the game’s first three goals, coming over the first 35:14. A little more than two minutes after the Golden Flyer’s third tally, Oswego cracked onto the scoreboard with a Mitchell Herlihey goal at 17:52 of the second. Andrew Barton assisted on the Herlihey notch as the Lakers carried the momentum into the final intermission.

Oswego used that energy to pepper the Nazareth goalie in the last period, outshooting its opponent 13-3. The Lakers were unable to beat the goaltender, however, despite a 30-21 advantage in shot attempts over the 60-minute tilt.

Matt Zawadzki started the contest and made three saves while allowing one goal before being relieved byAdrian Ignagni late in the opening period. Ignangi went on to allow two scores, stopping 14 Nazareth chances.

The Lakers special teams was a tale of two sides of the puck. On the penalty kill, Oswego only allowed one power-play goal on five Golden Flyer chances. During its own extra-man opportunities, Oswego was unable to light the lamp in five ventures.

Oswego will look to get back in the win column when it returns to the ice at 7 p.m. on Friday to host the Utica College Pioneers.
