COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Defensemen Charlie McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y./Boston Bruins) and Trevor van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J./Chicago Blackhawks) have been added to the roster of the U.S. Men’s National Team that will compete at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship May 5-21 in Cologne, Germany, and Paris, France.

McAvoy will be making his U.S. Men’s National Team debut while representing Team USA for the fourth time in IIHF world-championship play. He most recently served as an alternate captain for the gold medal-winning 2017 U.S. National Junior Team at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, where he was named to the media all-star team. He also won gold with the 2015 U.S. Men’s National Under-18 Team at the IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland, before earning a bronze medal with the 2016 U.S. National Junior Team in Helsinki, Finland.

After tallying 26 points (5-21) in 38 games and earning All-America honors at Boston University this season as a sophomore, McAvoy made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut for the Boston Bruins on April 12. He went on to add three assists in six playoff games for Boston.

This will mark the first time that van Riemsdyk will represent Team USA in IIHF world-championship play. He just completed his third season with the Chicago Blackhawks, in which he amassed a career-high 16 points (5-11) along with a plus-17 rating in 58 games. He has skated in 173 combined regular season and playoff games for the Blackhawks since signing with the club in March 2014.

Before joining Chicago, van Riemsdyk skated three seasons (2011-14) with the University of New Hampshire, where he earned First-Team All-America honors in 2013. Overall, he totaled 75 points (16-59) while skating in 102 games for the Wildcats in his three collegiate seasons.

The U.S. Men’s National Team now includes 12 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders. For the complete roster, click here.
