NY’ers Bingaman, Florentino Earn ECAC Honors

BingamanThree members of the Hobart College hockey team were recognized by the ECAC West conference office this week. First-year Nick Bingaman (Bedford, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Week, and sophomoreLino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) was tabbed the Goalie of the Week. Senior Tommy Fiorentino (New Hartford, N.Y.) earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll.

 

The Statesmen, who started the season with a 5-0 win over Manhattanville and a 2-2 overtime tie with then No. 14 Neumann over the weekend, remained at No. 9 in the USCHO.com poll this week. Hobart moved up two spots to No. 9 in this week’s D3hockey.com poll.

 

Bingaman shared a team-high with three points in his first collegiate game. On Friday, he took the first shot of his college career at 10:05 in the first and lifted it into the top right corner of the goal. It proved to be the game-winning goal against the Valiants. Bingaman chipped in a second goal, a short-handed tally, to make it 2-0 in the second period. He added an assist on the Statesmen’s fifth goal.

 

Chimienti posted a 0.96 goals against average and a .960 save percentage over the weekend, stopping a total of 48 shots. On Friday, he stopped all 26 shots that he faced to secure his first collegiate shutout in just his second career start. On Saturday against Neumann, Chimienti made 22 saves.

 

Fiorentino shared a team-high with three points on a goal and two assists. He chipped in a goal and an assist in the win over Manhattanville and assisted on Hobart’s second goal against the Knights.

 

The Statesmen will be back in action this weekend. Hobart travels to Nazareth on Friday, Nov. 8, for an ECAC West contest at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Statesmen will play another ECAC West game at No. 3/5 Utica at 7 p.m.
