NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Former Niagara hockey forward Stephen Pietrobon has agreed to an Amateur Tryout (ATO) with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. He becomes the third Purple Eagle to join an ECHL club this spring, after Vinny Muto and TJ Sarcona signed with the Rapid City Rush in March.

A strong two-way forward for the Purple Eagles, Pietrobon played in 130 games in his four seasons on Monteagle Ridge, totaling 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points. Named an assistant captain for his senior season, Pietrobon tied a career-high with 12 points (5+7) in 24 games in the 2016-17 campaign, including one power-play goal and one shorthanded goal.

Pietrobon was particularly effective down the stretch for Niagara this year, scoring three goals and one assist in the team’s final four regular-season games. He added one goal and one assist in Niagara’s three-game upset of the two-time defending AHC champion RIT Tigers in the first round of the 2017 Atlantic Hockey postseason.

The Elmira Jackals are the ECHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres (NHL) and Rochester Americans (AHL). The Jackals have four games remaining in their regular season, playing on the road against the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 before returning home to conclude the season against the Adirondack Thunder on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.
