Game Recap
North Dakota sophomore Brock Boeser recorded a goal and three assists, while freshman Tyson Jost was credited with his first career goal and assist, as the defending national champion Fighting Hawks defeated Canisius 6-0 from Ralph Engelstad Arena to begin the 2016-17 season.

North Dakota got on the board quickly, scoring 40 seconds into the contest, for an early 1-0 lead. The Fighting Hawks would add a second goal at 8:02, from sophomore Rhett Gardner. A third goal was overturned due to goaltender interference, keeping North Dakota’s lead at 2-0 to end the first period.

North Dakota would add four more goals in the second period to extend their lead to 6-0, with each goal being scored by a different Fighting Hawk.

Canisius stood its ground in the third period of action, holding North Dakota scoreless for a 6-0 final score. Sophomore Simon Hofley made seven saves in the period, 29 total.

“We came into a really tough building, battled extremely hard against a really good team, and worked from start to finish on how we want to play our game. They are very good. We showed we can skate, we can compete, we need to get better playing 200 feet together.”

• The Griffs were outshot in the contest 35-17, while wining 22 of 59 faceoffs.
• Sophomore Cameron Heath led all players with five shots.
• Sophomore Ian Edmonson was tied for the game high in blocks, with six, while senior Geoff Fortman was credited with four.
• The Golden Griffins are now 0-0-6 all-time against the Fighting Hawks.
• The Griffs committed three penalties totaling six minutes, while North Dakota was called for four penalties, lasting eight minutes.
