New Yorkers Tapped for Women’s U22 Team

Josephine Pucci and Kelly Steadman, both New Yorkers, have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Under-22 Select Team  that will play a three-game series against Canada from August 16-19 at the WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex in Calgary, Alberta.

Pucci played in the last U22 series, held in 2010. This is Steadman’s first appearance with the U22 Team.

Also named were Cornell’s Lauren Slebonick and Jordan Smelker of RPI. Slebonick is from Massachusetts and Smelker’s hometown is Anchorage, Alaska.

Cornell also had five players named to the Canadian U22 team including Hayleigh Cudmore, Lauren Fortino, Jessica Campbell, Brianne Jenner and Jillian Saulnier. Also named to the Canadian team from New York colleges/universities were Shannon Doyle of Colgate and Jamie Lee Rattray of Clarkson.

The series will begin on Thursday (Aug. 16) at 7 p.m. (MDT). Game two is slated for Friday (Aug. 17) at 7 p.m. and the final contest will be played at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 19). Real-time updates from the games will be available on Twitter @usahockeyscores.
