    TREVOR ZEGRAS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST

    Six players native to New York State along with two others committed to New York-based colleges and one Jr. Sabres are among the Central Scouting Midterm Rankings released recently for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver.

    Bedford native Trevor Zegras is ranked the highest—seventh among all North American skaters and projected to go in the first round. The 6’ 166 lb. center is committed to Boston University and was leading Team USA in scoring in the USHL portion of their schedule with four goals and 18 points in 11 games.

    Defensemen Marshall Warren and Case McCarthy are slotted 39th and 41st. The Team USA teammates are committed to Harvard and Boston University respectively. Warren, from Laurel Hollow on Long Island, is a 5’11”, 169 lb. left shot who had one goal and one assist in ten games so far this season. McCarthy hails from Clarence Center. The former Jr. Sabres stands 6’1”, 194 lbs. and had two goals and six points in 11 games.

    Team USA left wing John Beecher (Elmira) was slotted 53rd. The 6’3”, 204 lb. left wing and University of Michigan commit netted six points in 11 games for Team USA.

    Thornwood’s Domenick Fensore ranked 89th. The defenseman had a pair of goals and two assists in nine Team USA contests and is slated to attend Boston University. Lattingtown, Long Island’s Danny Weight was listed as the 166th North American skater. The Team USA 6’0”, 177 lb. left wing had four points in ten games.

    Clarkson commit Anthony Romano was slotted 76th overall. Playing with Sioux Falls in the USHL, the 5’10”, 188 lb. right shot forward had 12 goals and 13 assists over the first 32 games this season. And Cornell recruit Matthew Stienburg, captain at St. Andrews College in Ontario, Canada after a few games with Sioux City in the USHL over the holiday break, was ranked 179th. This season, the 6’1”, 183 lb. forward had eight points in seven games.

    Buffalo Jr. Sabres Ty Glover was slotted 203rd. The 6’2”, 196 lb. center had 17 goals and 34 points over 39 games in the OJHL this season. He is committed to Western Michigan University in 2020-21.

    The 2019 NHL Entry Draft will be held June 21-22 at Rogers Centre in Vancouver.
