Nazareth Opens Season with Shutout; Followed by Win at Anna Maria

NASHUA, NH – The Nazareth women’s hockey team started its season with a 4-0 shutout against Rivier University. With the win, the Golden Flyers improve 1-0 overall, while the Raiders fall 0-1, respectively. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Golden Flyers controlled the pace of the game from the opening puck drop and outshot the Raiders 109-10 overall. With 4:31 left in the first period, sophomore Sophia Pittis put the puck in the back, assisted by sophomores Ave Meteyer and Amy Laskowski

The Golden Flyers continued to pressure the Rivier’s and scored two more goals in the second period. At 11:39 into the second period, freshman Mia Abruzzese and freshman Ella Konrad set up junior Ella Manilla to score the second goal. Following Manilla’s, a slap shot from the point was saved, but junior Meredith Boettcher was able to get a stick on the rebound, scoring a power play goal at 14:39, assisted by Laskowski and Konrad.

Nazareth went into the third period with a 3-0 lead. A power play goal scored by Laskowski capped off Nazareth’s win at 4:53 in the third period, assisted by sophomore Brooke Judkiewicz and Pittis.

GAME NOTES: 

  • Nazareth held a massive 109-10 advantage in total shots and a 64-5 edge in shots on goal. 
  • Nazareth committed just one penalty for two minutes compared to Rivier’s 10 minutes. 
  • The Golden Flyers registered eight assists on four goals.
  • Nazareth dominated the faceoff circle, winning 37 of 53 faceoffs. 

Nazereth Continues Winning Streak at Anna Maria College

PAXTON, MA – The Nazareth women’s ice hockey team continued its strong start to the 2025-26 season with a 5-1 win over Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon at the Buffone Arena. 

With the victory, the Golden Flyers improved to 2-0 overall, while Anna Maria dropped to 0-2, respectively. 


HOW IT HAPPENED: 

Anna Maria struck first at 8:05 of the opening period to give the AMCATS an early 1-0 lead.

Nazareth took control in the second period, capitalizing on power play opportunities. On the power play, Junior Ella Cedrone tied the game with her first of two goals off an assist from junior Nikki Sharp at 15:37. Less than a minute later, sophomore Amy Laskowski scored her first of two goals on the day, by taking advantage of another power play opportunity. The Golden Flyers were now up 2-1 heading into the third. 

Nazareth dominated the final period, netting three unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. Sharp extended the lead to 3-1 at 6:38, assisted by sophomores Sophia Pittis and Laskowski. Laskowski struck again at 9:50 on yet another power play before Cedrone capped the scoring with her second goal of the game at 15:41.

Freshman goaltender Mia Gonsalves turned away 9 of 10 shots in a complete-game performance to earn her second win of the season. 


GAME NOTES:

  • Nazareth dominated the faceoff circle, winning 72 of 89 faceoffs. 
  • The victory marked Nazareth’s second straight win to open the season, with both games coming by multiple goals. 
  • The Golden Flyers outshout the AMCATS 43-10, including a 24-4 edge over the final two periods. 
  • Nazareth finished 3-for-4 on the power play, while holding Anna Maria scoreless with no power play chances.

The Golden Flyers return to action on the road Friday, November 7, in Morrisville, NY, against SUNY Morrisville at 7 p.m.
