MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – A night after Morrisville State Men’s Ice Hockey picked up their first win of the season, the Mustangs found themselves on the losing side of a high scoring affair losing 8-7 at Brockport on Saturday night.
Morrisville looked like they would pick up right where they left off last night, netting the first goal of the game just a minute and thirty seconds into play. Danny Liscio (Woodbridge, Ontario) drilled home the unassisted goal. Unfortunately, the lead would only last for six minutes as the Golden Eagles went on a scoring frenzy, netting four straight goals in the opening period.

Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) and Liscio would connect to find CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Vt.) with four minutes left in the first period, to make the score 4-2. Brockport answered with a goal a minute later for the 5-2 advantage heading into the first intermission.

The Mustangs came out fired up again in the second period, scoring just over a minute into play. MJ Maerkl (Binghamton, N.Y.) found the back of the net on a power play goal bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of Brockport.

The Golden Eagles responded and extended their lead at the end of the second period, netting two goals within 17 seconds of each other with a little over two minutes left in the second period. However, Morrisville refused to go down without a fight and tacked on another goal with just thirty seconds remaining in the second period. Ian Wood (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied the power play goal for the Mustangs, while Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, Ontario) picked up the assist.

With the Mustangs down 7-4, going into the third period, Tyler Lepore (London, Ontario) took it upon himself to bring Morrisville back into the game. Lepore picked up two key goals in the third period to bring the Mustangs within one. With ten minutes remaining in the game, Bradley Hefner (Billings, Mt.) picked the perfect time to net his first goal of the season and his first as a Mustang as he tied the game up at 7-7.

Ultimately, the Mustangs comeback bid could not result in a win. Brockport notched the game winner with four minutes left in the third and held on to win, 8-7.

Morrisville will return to action at home on Friday, November 13 for the first half of their home and away series with Fredonia. Game time at the IcePlex is set for 7 PM.
