DANBURY, Conn. – The Manhattanville College men’s hockey team continued to lead the ECAC West Conference in academic success in addition to its on-ice accomplishments this season, as a conference-best 22 Valiants were named to the ECAC Men’s West All-Academic Team, the ECAC conference office announced on Friday afternoon.
To be eligible for the Men’s West All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale and have completed at least one academic year at his current institution. Every one of the team’s 22 eligible players earned the recognition this season, marking the second straight year that every Valiant possible was recognized and marking the most honorees in a single-season in program history.
All five Valiant seniors – Phil Dinner (Dallas, Texas/Connecticut Oilers (EJHL)), Tanner Hicks (Calgary, Alta./Brooks Bandits (AJHL)), Nolan Marshall (Drumheller, Alta./Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL)), Adam Platt (Trumbull, Conn./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) and Teagan Waugh (Nanaimo, B.C./Powell River Kings (BCHL)) – earned the honor for the third straight year, the maximum allowed by the conference. Four juniors – Fabian Andark (Stockholm, Sweden/Vaxjo Lakers VHL (SWE)), Thimmy Garbenius (Nykvarn, Sweden/Sodertalje SK (SWE)), Stephen Gaul (Downers Grove, Ill./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) and Kyle Redmond (Toronto, Ont./Northfield Mount Hermon) – were named for the second straight season, while 13 Valiants earned the honor for the first time.
