RYE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville College women’s hockey team put on another strong showing Saturday, Nov. 17, defeating King’s College (Pa.) for the second day in a row in a 9-1 victory.

Junior Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery) got the scoring started for the second day in a row, getting the first goal of the game and her fifth of the season just 39 seconds in to give the Valiants a 1-0 lead. Manhattanville would add to it’s lead throughout the period as freshmen Erica Sandilands (Winnipeg, Man./Balmoral Hall Blaze (JWHL)) and Holly Meredith (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Vermont Academy) scored their first collegiate goals to extend the lead to three. The Valiants kept the offense up through the end of the period as junior Zoey Pellowitz (Arlington, Va./Washington Pride (JWHL)) scored shorthanded for her third goal of the season to push the lead to four, and sophomore Adelle Clark (Lantzville, British Columbia/Ontario Hockey Academy) scored her first career goal as well in the final seconds of the period to give the Valiants a 5-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Manhattanville picked up right where it left off in the second, as sophomore Diana Piacquadio (Port Washington, NY/Gilmour Academy (Ohio)) picked up her first ever goal as well, stretching the lead to 6-0. Less than a minute later, senior Nicole Mensi (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Northwood School) scored her third of the season to extend the lead to seven. The Valiants would continue to put the puck in the net, as junior Ali Howard (Rye, N.Y./Rye) converted on the power play to make it an 8-0 game going into the third period.

Manhattanville picked up another goal in the third, as Sabia scored her second of the afternoon and sixth of the season to put the Valiants ahead by nine. King’s Kellie Munro would score midway through the third, but that was all the offense the Monarchs would come up with as the Valiants cruised to a 9-1 victory.

Four players had multi-point games for the Valiants, as Howard, Meredith, and Pellowitz each had two points, while Sabia added four more.

In her first start of the season, junior goalkeeper Taylor Elias (Winnipeg, Man./Canadian International Hockey Academy) made 10 saves for Manhattanville and picked up the victory.

The Valiants return to action Saturday, Nov. 24, as they travel to Boston for the Codfish Bowl Invitational, taking on Bowdoin College with puck drop scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
