ROCHESTER, N.Y. — After their performances this past week, junior forward Tianna Lopes (West Vancouver, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers (JWHL)), freshman goalie Lena Flores (Chicago, Ill./Guerin College Prep) and senior forward Ken McLean (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) were awarded weekly honors from the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC). McLean was awarded Men’s Player of the Week, Lopes received Women’s South Player of the Week and Flores was awarded Women’s South Rookie of the Week.

For the first time since November of 2009, a Valiant men’s hockey player notched a program-record-tying four goals in a single game. McLean accomplished that feat Saturday, Jan. 18, in his first-ever multi-goal game against Neumann University. He also tied the program record for power play goals in a game with three. Additionally, McLean added an assist against Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday, Jan. 14. This is his first weekly honor from the UCHC.

Lopes recorded her second career hat trick in an 8-1 win over King’s College on Saturday, Jan. 18. She also added two assists to give her a team-leading five points in the game. In a Friday, Jan. 17, game against Wilkes University, she added one more assist to give her six total points on the week. Lopes currently leads the team in points with 25. This is her fourth Player of the Week honor from the UCHC, and second this season.

In her third win of the season, Flores made 10 saves and earned her second-career shutout in a 4-0 victory over Wilkes. She is now 3-3-1 in seven starts this season. This is her third Rookie of the Week honor from the UCHC.

Both the men and women return to action this weekend. They will each travel to Rochester, N.Y., to take on Nazareth College. The women face off against the Golden Flyers, Friday, Jan. 24, at 3:30 p.m. and the men have a 4:00 p.m. puck drop on Saturday, Jan. 25.
