BOSTON, Mass. – The Manhattanville College women’s hockey team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling to UMass Boston in the quarterfinal round of the New England Hockey Conference tournament 4-0.

Freshman goaltender Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) made 28 saves on the afternoon for the Valiants (9-17-0 overall) but the offense was stalled by the Beacons (14-12-0 overall). Manhattanville was able to register 21 shots on goal, led with four shots from senior Kyra Herbert (Plainfield, N.H./Lebanon). UMass goaltender Rachel Myette turned away every shot she faced from the Valiants to earn the shutout.

Manhattanville and UMass Boston looked very evenly matched in the opening stanza, with neither team finding the back of the net, with shots on goal narrowly in favor of the Beacons 7-5.

The Beacons tallied the first goal of the game just over two and a half minutes into the second period, when Jenny Currie scored her first goal of the game. Currie would score the next two goals for UMass Boston as well, earning a hat-trick to lead the Beacons to the victory.

Manhattanville finishes the season with a 9-17 record. The Valiants will look to continue to build on their success next year as they return 19 of their 21 starters to the lineup.
