RUTLAND, VT – The Manhattanville College women’s hockey team dropped the WSYB/Catamount Radio Invitational Championship Game to Castleton, 1-0, Sunday afternoon, the team’s first loss in its last five games.

Aimee Brand scored the game’s lone goal for Castleton (6-6-1) 6:45 in, knocking home a rebound from just outside the crease after Manhattanville (5-4-1) junior goalie Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) saved a slapshot by Hannah Rose.

The Valiants had a 5-on-3 opportunity in the opening period after Brand’s goal, but couldn’t muster a shot while on the two-player advantage. Manhattanville was also unable to put a shot on Kalm in the game’s final 1:27 after pulling Pijaca for an extra skater.

Pijaca and Kalm combined to stop the game’s final 31 shots after Brand’s goal. In all, Kalm finished with 22 saves, while Pijaca finished with 15.

For Manhattanville, senior Sarah Sinning (Southold, N.Y./National Sports Academy) had a game-high four shots, while classmate Maeve O’Brien (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Fury) and junior Nicole Mensi (Mamaroneck, N.Y./SUNY Plattsburgh), one day removed from a hat trick in a 4-2 win over SUNY Canton, each had three shots. Mensi and O’Brien were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Valiants are back in action Wednesday, starting a three game homestand at Playland Ice Casino with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference affair against Saint Anselm.
