MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 5/11 Hobart College ice hockey team edged Wesleyan, 3-2 in a non-conference game at Spurrier-Snyder Rink this afternoon. Junior Nick Bingaman posted a game-high two points as the Statesmen extend their unbeaten streak to four games.

Hobart (8-2-2) jumped out front at 9:06 of the first period when Bingaman notched his third goal of the season. With the Statesmen on the power play, he carried the puck below the left faceoff circle and wristed a shot from a difficult angle. The puck deflected off the back of the Cardinals goalie, Daniel Weiss, and into the back of the net. Juniors Carl Belizario and Bobby Sokol set up the goal for Hobart. A little over 90 seconds later, Wesleyan (0-4-4) tied the game at one. Alex Carlacci collected a loose puck and sent a shot past the Statesmen goalie, Lino Chimienti. Hobart regained the lead on a power-play goal at 16:35 of the first period, when sophomore Tyler Wolf netted his second goal of the season. He deflected a Bingaman shot across the goal line. Bingaman and first-year Matt Pizzo were credited with assists on the goal.

Five minutes into the second period, the Cardinals tied the game at 2-2. Jaren Tanaka created an offensive zone opportunity and buried the shot.

First-year Cam Shaheen notched his second goal of the season at 12:34 of the third period to put Hobart ahead 3-2. He broke into the offensive zone and wristed a shot that beat Weiss high blocker side. Shaheen’s goal would prove to be the game-winner.

In goal, Chimienti turned aside 36 shots in 60 minutes of action for the Statesmen. Weiss stopped 36 shots in 58:31 of action for Wesleyan.

Both teams scored with the man advantage. Hobart went 2-for-7 with the extra attacker, while Wesleyan went 1-for-3.

The Statesmen have now completed the 2015 portion of its schedule. Hobart will be back in action at the Cooler on Jan. 8, 2016 when they host No. 9/10 Geneseo in a non-conference tilt.
