Kenmore Girls Face Monsignor Martin in Championship

Kenmore and Monsignor Martin Girl’s Varsity Ice Hockey teams will faceoff at 5 p.m. Friday (Feb. 13) for the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Championship. The game will be held at Northtowns Center, Amherst.

In the first game of the semi-finals. Monsignor Martin took on Lancaster/Iroquois. The MM team got on the boards at 8:44 of the first period. Allison Attea scored, assisted by Kaitlin Drew-Mead and they went ahead 1-0, ending the first period.

In the second they secured a lead when Katherine Lauber scored, assisted by Sarah Richmond and Attea. That period ended 2-0.

At 4:08 of the third Kayla Blas got one past the Maddie Norton and the MM team went up 3-0. The assist went to Maeve Christ and Drew-Mead. However, just over 40 seconds later Lancaster/Iroquois’ Megan Reukauf dropped in an unassisted goal, and the score goes to 3-1.  Reukauf then took off and scored her secondat 12:17 on an assist from Renee Doherty. The game was now a goal apart when Drew-Mead shot in an empty-netter, assisted by Christ. The third period ends 4-2 in favor of Monsignor Martin.

In the second game of the night Kenmore and Williamsville played to a 0-0 tie in the first. Kenmore’s Taylor Story dropped in the first and only goal of the game at 4:31 of the second period and the third went scoreless. The assist came from Emily King.

Kenmore claimed the Section VI Championship and went on the the NYS Championship, where they beat Alexandria Bay 2-1 in the first round and then lost 3-0 helpingmaddienorton to the eventual NYS Champion, Massena,
