Sophomore forward Emily Janiga of the Mercyhurst University women’s hockey team has been named the College Hockey America Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. It marks the fourth time this season that Janiga has claimed the honor.

This past weekend, Janiga scored one goal and added four assists in a weekend sweep at Penn State to help the Lakers claim their seventh straight victory and to clinch the College Hockey America regular season championship. The sophomore collected a goal and an assist in the 4-0 shutout on Saturday night and then dished out three assists on Sunday when the Lakers skated past the Nittany Lions 4-1.

Janiga has scored at least one point in four straight games and in nine of her last ten contests. She ranks second on the team in scoring with 38 points this season on 15 goals and 23 assists. She is among the top four in the league in all three categories.

The Lakers (21-7-3, 14-3-1 CHA) will entertain Lindenwood University (5-23-2, 5-12-1 CHA) this Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22 to close out the regular season with Saturday’s contest serving as Senior Day at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Faceoff on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. as game one of a hockey doubleheader at the MIC. Saturday’s contest is slated at 2:00 p.m.

With Mercyhurst clinching the CHA regular season title, the Mercyhurst Ice Center will play host to the conference semifinals and championship for the second consecutive season. Those games will be held on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at times to be determined
