It’s a mind-boggling premise, but one that makes for compelling viewing: a rogue operative intent on extracting people’s secrets after ‘entering’ their minds.
That’s exactly what Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) does: as an infiltrator of other people’s minds, he’s able to roam at will through their dreamscapes and pinch the buried secrets.
What’s more, this ‘extractor’ goes a step further – therein comes the film’s title – and plants a dangerous thought in their mind. How audacious is that?
This sci-fi thriller is multi-layered where the extraordinary screenplay challenges us to envisage that time simultaneously moves at four different speeds – and shows how in one particular scene.
Intellectually challenging, British director Christopher Nolan (‘Batman the Dark Knight’, ‘Memento’) has excelled in the presentation of this bold concept.
Not only that, he has also presented images in a storyline that’s easily absorbed. Nolan weaves a multi-layered gossamer labyrinth that draws you in.
The film is said to be inspired by the experience of dream incubation and lucid dreaming.
The storyline for ‘Inception’ started developing almost 10 years ago. That took a lot of resilience and patience. It was certainly worth the wait: this is a phenomenal result on celluloid – and it’s just mesmerising!
