Hobart’s Sovik Named ECACW Co-Player of the Week

Hobart College junior Robert Sovik (Prague, Czech Republic) was selected the ECAC Men’s West Co-Player of the Week as announced by the conference office late yesterday. The Statesmen hockey team moved up one spot to No. 8 in both the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls this week.

Sovik posted three points in a 1-0-1 weekend for Hobart. He produced two goals, including the game-winning goal in the final second, to secure a 3-2 victory at then No. 3/5 Utica on Saturday. Sovik also earned an assist in a 4-4 tie with the Golden Flyers on Friday. He leads Hobart and shares the ECAC West lead with three goals and shares a team-high with five points this season. Sovik has also tallied two assists.

The Statesmen are now 2-0-2 and sit atop the conference in scoring defense allowing an average of just 2.00 goals per game. Hobart also shares the conference lead in scoring offense (3.50 g/gm) and ranks second in penalty kills (86.4 percent).

Sophomore Mac Olson(Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and senior Tommy Fiorentino (New Hartford, N.Y.) have also chipped in five points each. Olson has posted two goals and three assists, while Fiorentino has tallied a team-high four assists and scored one goal. Sophomore goalie Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) is sporting a 1.92 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 15, when they host Geneseo for a non-league game at 7 p.m. Fan unable to make it to The Cooler can follow the action online with Live Stats.
