Hobart’s Oplinger Named Goalie of the Week, Hobart Ranked No. 6

Hobart College junior goaltender Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) was tabbed the ECAC Men’s West Goalie of the Week as announced by the conference office today. In addition, the Statesmen moved up one spot to No. 6 in both the D3hockey.com poll and the USCHO.com poll this week.

It’s the third time this season Oplinger has earned the award. He made a total of 50 saves, sported a .962 save percentage, and a 1.00 goals against average in two wins for Hobart. Oplinger turned aside 27 shots in Saturday night’s 7-1 win over Elmira in The Cooler and finished with 23 saves in a 3-1 win on Sunday night in Elmira.

Oplinger is sporting a .918 save percentage, a 2.52 goals against average and an 8-4-2 record in goal. He ranks third in the ECAC West in both save percentage and goals against average.

With their win on Saturday night, the Statesmen secured the No. 3 seed in the ECAC West tournament. Hobart will host No. 6 Stevenson on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in The Cooler.

The Statesmen are led in scoring by senior Nick Bingaman. He ranks third in the ECAC West with 17 goals and is tied for 10th with 25 points. Hobart sits atop the league in scoring defense (2.40 ga/gm) and on the penalty kill (86.8%). The Statesmen rank second in scoring offense, producing an average of 3.92 goals per game.
