Hobart’s Connal Named NEHC Goaltender of the Week

Hobart College sophomore goaltender Alexander Connal (Simsbury, Conn.) was named the NEHC Goaltender of the Week today. Connal posted the first two shutouts of his career in NEHC action this weekend.

The Statesmen, who improved to 12-5-4 overall and 9-3-2 in conference play, moved up to No. 12 in the nation in this week’s USCHO.com poll and remained at No. 11 in the D3hockey.com poll.

It’s the third time Connal has earned the Goaltender of the Week Award this season. He played 119: stopping all 37 shots he faced over the weekend. Connal recorded his first career shutout stopping all 21 shots in a 2-0 win over New England College on Friday night. On Saturday, he made 16 saves in a 4-0 win over Southern Maine.

Connal sits atop the NEHC with a 1.58 goals against average and a .936 save percentage this year. He ranks second in Division III in goals against average and seventh in save percentage. Connal is currently riding a streak of 155:07 without allowing a goal.

The Statesmen are ninth in the nation in scoring defense allowing an average of 1.90 goals per game. Hobart is tied for 17th in Division III in team win percentage (.667) and ranks 18th in scoring offense (3.62 g/gm).

The Statesmen are back in action this weekend, when they host Babson and UMass-Boston for NEHC games in The Cooler. Hobart faces the Beavers on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m., before taking on the Beacons on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m.
