Hobart Men’s Hockey Holds Off Cortland, 4-2

GENEVA, N.Y. – Nationally ninth-ranked Hobart opened up a 4-0 lead just past the midway point of the second period and held off Cortland for a 4-2 victory in men’s hockey Monday night in non-conference action. The Statesmen improved to 6-2-1 with the win, while the Red Dragons fell to 3-5.

Junior Darren McCormick (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and freshman Nico Gonzalez (Buffalo/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) netted goals for Cortland. Junior Tommy Nolan (Mahopac/Connecticut Oilers) and freshmen Dougie Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden/New Jersey Rockets), Sean Perichak (Oakville, ON/Markham Royals) and Wilson Vershay (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) each recorded an assist. Junior goalie Drew Weigman (Annapolis, MD/Northern Cyclones) registered 41 saves.

Jordan Haskell paced Hobart with one goal and one assist. Nick Bingaman, Matt Pizzo and Andrew Silard each scored a goal, while five others picked up one assist apiece. Goalie Alexander Connal made 20 saves.
