Hobart Extends Unbeaten Streak To Six With Win Over Connecticut College

NEW YORK—The Hobart College hockey team downed Connecticut College 5-1 in a non-league game played tonight at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The Statesmen improved to 8-2-3 overall, while the Camels fell to 3-5-0 this season.

Hobart is now unbeaten in its last six games. Senior Jordan Haskell scored a team-high two goals for the Statesmen. First-years Travis Schneider and Ryan Lynch each added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Alexander Connal played all 60 minutes in goal and made 26 saves in the win. He improved to 5-1-1 in goal this season. Greg Pezza scored the lone goal for Connecticut College in the third period. Avery Gobbo stopped 33 shots in goal for the Camels.

At 7:54 into the game, junior Tanner Shaw put the Statesmen up 1-0. His shot from just inside the blue line marked his second goal this season. Just 2:54 into the second period, first-year Ryan Lynch lifted his shot from right in front, scoring top shelf to make it 2-0. It was his second goal this winter. Late in the second period, the Camels came inches away from scoring, clanging a shot off the right post.

Hobart continued to pour it on early in the third, scoring two goals in the first two minutes. Forty-nine seconds into the period, Haskell poked the puck across the line from right in front. Seniors Ben Greiner and Tyler Wolf earned the assists. Just under a minute later, Schneider found the back of the net for his third goal of the season after quick passes from Lynch and first-year Alec Robitaille.

At 7:18 in the third, Pezza broke through for the Camels with a power-play goal. He tipped in a shot by Kyle Moss. With 19 seconds left in the game, Haskell notched his second of the game and sixth of the season, pushing the puck in from right in front. Sophomore Lawson MacDougall was credited with the assist.

The Statesmen finished with a 38-27 advantage in shots. The Camels were 1-for-4 on the power play, while Hobart went 0-for-1.

Hobart is back in action Jan. 5 and 6, when it competes in the 2018 Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic. The Statesmen face Manhattanville in Oswego on Friday, Jan. 5 at 4 p.m.
