The Hobart College hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and cruised to a 5-1 victory over Geneseo in a non-league game played tonight at Wilson Arena. The Statesmen improve to 4-0-2 this season, and the Blue Knights are now 3-4-1.

 

Five Statesmen scored in Hobart’s victory. Sophomore Ryan Michel (Camillus, N.Y.) led the Statesmen with three assists. Junior Keith Clarke (Westmeath, Ont.), senior Brad Richard (New Bedford, Mass.) and senior Frank Salituro (Vaughan, Ont.) each tallied a goal and an assist. Senior goalie Nick Broadwater (Portland, Maine) played all 60 minutes and finished with 29 saves.

 

Just 4:44 into the game, senior Bobby Hannah (Burbank, Calif.) capitalized on a power play to put Hobart up 1-0. Richard and Michel set up the play. At 10:20, Richard scored his own power-play goal to give the Statesmen a two-goal advantage. Michel and Salituro earned the assists. Salituro stretched Hobart’s lead to 3-0 with yet another power-play goal with just 2:04 left in the opening period. His fifth goal of the season came after passes from Michel and sophomore Robert Sovik.

 

Just 3:41 into the second, sophomore Brad McBride (Lone Tree Colo.) logged his third goal of the year to make it 4-0. Clarke recorded the assist.

 

Geneseo got on the scoreboard 3:26 into the final period. Just after a Hobart penalty was expired, Nate Brown found the back of the net after passes from Kaz Iwamoto and Justin Scharfe. The Statesmen answered with their fifth goal of the game. Clarke scored at 9:35 on a backhanded shot off an assist from first-year Bo Webster (Aurora, Ont.).

 

Bryan Haude played the opening 23:41 in goal for Geneseo and stopped seven shots. Adrian Rubeniuk came in to play the final 36:19 and made eight saves.

 

The Blue Knights held a 30-20 advantage in shots. The Statesmen went 3-for-5 on the power play, while Geneseo was 0-for-3.

 

Hobart will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 16, when the Statesmen travel to take on Nazareth in an ECAC West game at 7 p.m.
