GENEVA, N.Y. – The William Smith College ice hockey team won their second straight game to start the season, scoring twice in the third period to defeat UMass Boston 4-2 this afternoon at The Cooler. Nine different players recorded a point for the Herons.

William Smith (2-0-0) got off to a fast start, scoring 16 seconds into the game. Sophomore Grace Durham broke into the offensive zone and wristed a shot past the Beacons’ goalie. The unassisted goal was the fastest goal scored by a Heron to start a game in program history.

First-year Rachel Carranza gathered a loose puck at the point and sent a pass to Dori Craig in the slot. Federow won the offensive zone draw back toRebecca Begley at the point. Begley fed a crossing pass to Hedi Droste at the opposite point. Droste fired a slapshot from the point that Federow, who was crashing the net after the faceoff, got a stick on to redirect past Myette.
