Michaela Giuttari ’20 scored the game-winner just 37 seconds into the contest and the Hamilton College women’s hockey team posted a 2-0 NESCAC victory over the Colby College Mules in Waterville, Maine on Saturday.

Giuttari won the faceoff to the left of Nina Pruenster (17 saves) and the puck was tied up between two Mules and two Continentals. Nancy Loh ’22 tapped the puck out of the scrum to Giuttari who deked around a defender for an open shot on goal and she buried the puck top shelf for the early one-goal lead.

Hamilton (4-2, 3-1 NESCAC) was also victorious in Friday night’s contest by a score of 4-2 to sweep the series.

Colby evens its record at 2-2 both in the NESCAC and overall.

The Continentals outshot the hosts 11-9 in the first period but Sammy Johnson ’20 earned her first shutout of the season as Colby peppered the goal in the final two periods. The Mules finished the game with a 28-18 shot advantage.

Johnson made two incredible saves in the first period when Moira Mullaney nearly tucked the puck under the crossbar but Johnson popped the blocker up for the save at 7:34. The rebound immediately landed at the back door for a wide-open shot on net from Lily von Stade but Johnson made a diving save to preserve the shutout.

Loh sealed the victory with an empty net goal with 20 seconds left in the game. Giuttari blocked a shot attempt from Lexi Cafiero, the puck deflected out of Colby’s offensive zone and Loh skated the puck down the ice uncontested for her second goal of the series. Loh also finished Friday night’s game with one goal and one assist.

Hamilton returns home to Russell Sage Rink for a non-conference game against SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.
