Geneseo Coaches Pick As No. 1 In SUNYAC Pre-Season Poll

CORTLAND, N.Y- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has released the results of the 2016 men’s ice hockey preseason coaches’ poll. Geneseo was selected by the conference coaches as the number one team garnering 61 overall points.

Last season, the Knights were crowned SUNYAC champions routing Plattsburgh in the championship game, 7-1. This was the first championship win since 2006 and the fourth time overall for Geneseo.

Plattsburgh gathered 59 points, ranking them second in the preseason poll. The Cardinals have the most SUNYAC ice hockey championship titles (22) winning most recently in 2015 when they defeated Oswego, 2-1. Plattsburgh faces off against Geneseo on December 10.

Oswego finished with 49 points, good for third place in the poll. The Lakers have 10 overall SUNYAC crowns with back-to-back wins in 2013 and 2014.

All nine conference teams will face off in their first league game on November 4 with the goal of making it to the SUNYAC championship on March 4, 2017.
