PLATTSBURGH WOMEN’S HOCKEY

BUFFALO, N.Y. — No. 1 Plattsburgh State women’s ice used goals from five different student-athletes to shut out Buffalo State, 7-0, in a Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) game on Friday night at the Buffalo State Ice Arena. 

Plattsburgh State (3-0-0, 2-0-0 NEWHL) next plays a NEWHL game at Oswego State tomorrow at 3 p.m. Buffalo State (0-4-0, 0-2-0 NEWHL) hosts SUNY Cortland for a NEWHL game tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Senior forward Sara Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich./Northern Cyclones) and junior forward Ivy Boric (Newport Beach, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) each scored two goals. Graduate student forward and team captain Annie Katonka(Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) garnered one goal. First-year forwards Lily Stumm (Cranberry Township, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) and Tes Hurd (Ann Arbor, Mich./HoneyBaked) each scored their first collegiate goal.

CORTLAND WOMEN’S HOCKEY

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women’s ice hockey team opened up its home schedule with a come-from-behind 2-1 win versus Oswego Friday night in NEWHL action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Lakers dropped to 3-1-1 and 1-1-1.

Senior Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Vipers) and freshman Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) scored Cortland’s goals. Seniors Quinn Metcalfe (Churchville/Rochester Monarchs) and Emily Kromer (Angola/Nazareth College), sophomore Kait Bourgeois (Cobden, ON/Ottawa Thunder) and freshman Nat O’Brien (Lockport/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) each collected an assist. Sophomore goalie Anna Hamid (Mineola/New Jersey Colonials) made a career-high 42 saves.

Sophomore Morgan Shines (Marengo, IL/Chicago Mission) netted Oswego’s goal with senior Philomena Teggart (Pickering, ON/Durham West Jr. Lightning) and junior Ariella Haas (Albany/Elmira College) assisting. Sophomore goalie Bryn White (Centennial, CO/Boston Shamrocks) turned aside 21 shots.

CORTLAND MEN’S HOCKEY

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego men’s hockey team erased a first-period deficit with goals in the second and third periods to earn a 2-1 win versus Cortland Friday night in SUNYAC action. The Lakers improved to 2-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference. The Red Dragons fell to 2-2 and 1-2.

Junior Trevor Veneklase (Brentwood, TN/Seahawks Hockey Club) scored a power-play goal for Cortland. Senior Ethan Homitz (Allison Park, PA/New Hampshire Monarchs) assisted on the goal. Junior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) registered 36 saves.

Connor Sleeth and Troy Robillard netted the goals for Oswego. Travis Broughman collected an assist. Goalie Steven Kozikoski made 21 saves.

CANISIUS/RIT MEN’S HOCKEY

Canisius tallied four power-play goals on its way to a 5-2 victory over RIT in Atlantic Hockey Association action Friday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Sophomore defenseman Jackson Decker tallied two goals and added an assist for a career-high three points to pace the Golden Griffins (5-4-1, 2-1-0 AHA). Senior Lee Lapid, sophomore Max Kouznetsov and junior Keaton Mastodonato also scored for Canisius. Junior Jacob Barczewski finished with 24 saves between the pipes.

Jake Hamacher registered a goal and an assist for the Tigers (5-4-2, 3-2-2 AHA). Elijah Gonsalves accounted for the other RIT tall while Kolby Matthews made 20 stops in goal.

Big second period lifts Golden Eagles over Bears, 3-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y.-The College at Brockport (4-0, 2-0 SUNYAC) scored all three goals in the second period to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team (0-3, 0-3) 3-0 on Saturday night. In his season debut, senior goalie Michael Paglucca (North Reading, Mass./New Hampshire Avalanche) made a game-high 29 saves.

PLATTSBURGH ST. MEN’S HOCKEY VS. GENESEO

GENESEO, N.Y. — Plattsburgh State men’s ice hockey was edged by No. 1 SUNY Geneseo, 3-2, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Friday night at Ira S. Wilson Arena.

Plattsburgh State (2-2-1, 1-1-1 SUNYAC) next plays a SUNYAC game at SUNY Brockport tomorrow at 7 p.m. Geneseo (4-0-0, 2-0-0 SUNYAC) hosts SUNY Potsdam for a conference game tomorrow at 7 p.m.

HOBART DOWNS BUFFALO ST. IN MEN’S HOCKEY

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked Hobart College ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period and four goals in the third period as it raced past Buffalo State 8-3 in a non-conference contest this evening. The Statesmen are now 4-0-1 to start the season.
 
Dan Sliney led the way for Hobart with two goals and an assist. Artem Buzoverya (2g), Griffen Sanom (1g, 1a), Mark Benemerito (1g, 1a) and PA Martineau (2a) also had multi-point games for the Statesmen. Liam Lascelle started and made 16 saves in the Hobart goal.
 
Seven different players recorded a point in the loss for the Bengals (2-2-0). Connor Minch played all 60 minutes in the Buffalo State goal and made 42 saves.

ELMIRA DOWNS WILLIAM SMITH COLLEGE IN WOMEN’S HOCKEY

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College ice hockey team was edged by Elmira 3-2 in overtime in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this evening. With the loss, the Herons are now 2-3-0 overall this season and 1-2-0 in NEHC play.
 
Mary McCafferty scored the game-winning goal 2:05 into the 3-on-3 overtime period to earn the extra point for the Soaring Eagles (4-0-0, 3-0-0). Holley Riva dug the puck out of a board battle and fed a pass to McCafferty in the neutral zone. McCafferty broke into the offensive zone and slipped a backhanded shot past Amanda Aalto. It was McCafferty’s third goal of the season.
 
Six different players recorded a point for William Smith. Amanda Aalto started in goal for the Herons and made 49 saves in 62:05 minutes in goal.
 
Brooke McArdle and Riva had a goal and an assist in the victory for Elmira. Leonie-Louise Kuehberger started and played 61:42 minutes in goal for the Soaring Eagles making 20 saves.

RPI Falls at Colgate, 5-2

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Josh McKechney and Matt Verboon each netted a pair of goals to lead the Colgate University men’s hockey team to a 5-2 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Friday night at Class of ’65 Arena. With the win, the Raiders improve to 6-6-0 overall (1-2-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 5-4-1 (3-2-0 ECAC Hockey).
