FREDONIA, N.Y. — Fredonia had its best offensive period of the season Friday en route to a 7-2 non-conference home win over SUNY Canton.

The Blue Devils (7-10-3) fell behind 1-0 before netting four goals, the most in a one period this season. They scored the only goal of the second period and scored twice on only seven shots in the third period.

Freshman left winger Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa.) had a break-out game to lead the onslaught — one goal and four assists — to earn the No. 1 star. Junior defenseman Zach White (Taberg, N.Y.) scored two goals, both during the first-period uprising, to earn the No. 2 star. The No. 3 star went to freshman right winger Todd Schauss (Terryville, Conn.) with one goal and one assist, plus solid defensive play.

Fredonia’s other goal scorers were sophomore center Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.), freshman right winger Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.), and senior center Taylor Bourne (Calgary, Alberta). Bourne’s goal was his team-leading 11th.

Freshman goaltender Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) finished with 39 saves as he improved to 4-5-0.

Nick Lepone and J.P. Langlois had the Canton goals, with Lepone’s giving his team the lead briefly, 1-0, at 5:16 of the first period.

Canton’s starting goaltender Luis Puig was yanked late in the first period after Fredonia scored four goals in a span of eight minutes. He finished with nine saves and Josh Erickson made 13 saves.

The loss dropped the Kangaroos to 4-15-3.

The teams square off again Saturday in Fredonia’s annual Pink The Rink game. The Steele Hall ticket office and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Faceoff is 7 p.m.
