FREDONIA, N.Y. – Souvenir pucks were handed out twice Friday during Fredonia’s 4-3 men’s hockey win over Daniel Webster at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

A pair of freshman, left winger Todd Schauss (Terryville, Conn.) and defenseman Jon Carlson (Fort Frances, Ont.), scored their first collegiate goals.

In addition, checking-line center Frankie Hart (Timmins, Ont.) scored his first goal of the season – the seventh of the junior’s collegiate career – while junior Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) scored for the sixth time this season to tie for the team lead.

Freshman goaltender Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 39 saves while posting his second win of the season (2-2-0).

Matt Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Hannah, and Ryan Murray had the Daniel Webster goals.

Daniel Webster outshot the Blue Devils, 42-20.

Fredonia improved to 4-5-2. The Eagles fell to 3-8-0.

The teams meet again 3 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall.

Fredonia led from start to finish, starting with the goal by Ortiz at 11:12 of the first period. Ortiz scored on a rush up the left side after the Blue Devils won a faceoff in their defensive end. Sophomore defenseman Jamie Young (Russell, Ohio) was credited with an assist.

Schauss made it 2-0 Fredonia at 5:13 of the second period when he circled behind the cage and scored from a wide angle. The puck was given to him as a memento of his first collegiate goal.

A second puck was collected just over two minutes later after Carlson connected on a rebound for the first goal as a collegian. The power-play goal at 7:38 of the second period gave Fredonia a 3-0 lead.

Daniel Webster cut its deficit to 3-1 when Fitzpatrick converted a 2-on-1 opportunity at 13:36 of the second period. The Blue Devils got the goal back just over a minute later when Hart scored from the slot following a pass from sophomore defenseman Oskar Gerhardson (Haesslehom, Sweden).

Daniel Webster scored twice in the third period. Hannah made it 4-2 when he scored on a short-handed breakaway following a Fredonia turnover in its defensive end. With Eagles’ goaltender Anthony D’Urso pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Murray cut the margin to 4-3 with 1:11 remaining.
