CORTLAND, N.Y. — Fredonia sophomore Tyler Riter (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal in his first NCAA collegiate game Friday.

Riter broke a 1-1 tie midway through the first period and junior goaltender Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 23 saves in the Blue Devils 2-1 SUNYAC road win over the Cortland Red Dragons.

Junior center Sam Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.) had a goal and an assist as the Blue Devils improved to 3-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the conference.

Dan Broderick had the lone goal for Cortland. The Red Dragons fell to 1-3 in the conference, 1-5 overall.

The Blue Devils broke on top at 9:59 of the first period when Wilbur put a shot through past the screened goaltender during a 5-on-3 Fredonia power play. It was Wilbur’s third goal of the season and only the fourth power-play goal of the season by the Blue Devils, who came into the game just 3 of 26 with a man-advantage.

Cortland pulled even, 1-1, at the 12:21 mark of the first period when Broderick scored off a scramble in front of Bogart.

Riter put Fredonia back on top, 2-1, at 8:01 of the second. Stationed near the right post, the left-winger took a pass from down low jammed the puck home into the corner. Wilbur was credited with the lone assist.

The Blue Devils are back in action Saturday night when they visit Oswego to take on the No. 9 ranked Lakers at 7 p.m.
