Five Hobart Hockey Players Win NEHC End of Season Awards

Five members of the fifth-ranked Hobart College ice hockey team were honored by the New England Hockey Conference with end of the season awards this afternoon. First-year forward Luke Aquaro was named the NEHC Rookie of the Year and Head Coach Mark Taylor was selected the Coach of the Year.
 
A league-high five Statesmen were named to the all-conference teams. Defenseman Blake Coffey was named to the all-conference first team and forward Aaron Maguyon and defenseman Austin Mourar were named to the second team. In addition, Aquaro and Reid Lindsay were named to the All-Rookie team. Coffey, Lindsay and Maguyon have played in all 24 games this season.
 
This is the seventh time that Taylor has earned coach of the year honors. He was named the ECAC West Coach of the year six times. He led the Statesmen to an 18-4-2 regular season record and a 13-2-2 mark in conference play. The Statesmen clinched their first NEHC regular season crown this past weekend with wins over New England College and No. 13 Norwich. Hobart will be the No. 1 seed in the NEHC Tournament. Taylor’s charges lead the NEHC and are third in the nation in scoring offense (5.00 gpg) and assists (215) and fourth in the nation in scoring margin (+2.71) and points (335).  The Statesmen’s 335 points and 215 assists are third on Hobart’s single-season list. Taylor is in his 22nd season behind the bench for the Statesmen. He has a career record of 347-170-54 and has guided Hobart to seven consecutive 18-plus win seasons.
 
Aquaro has played in 22 of the 24 games this season and leads Hobart with 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists. Aquaro is 23rd in the nation in power-play goals and 25th in goals per game (0.64). He is fourth in the nation in rookie scoring. In 16 games against NEHC opponents, Aquaro has 22 points on 10 goals and 22 assists. His 1.38 points per game in conference leads all rookies. Aquaro logged a career-high four points on two goals and two assists against Castleton. He also had three points in a come from behind victory over New England College. A native of Yardley, Pennsylvania, Aquaro has nine multi-point games this season. He was named the NEHC Rookie of the Week three times. Aquaro is the first Statesman to be named the NEHC Rookie of the Year since Mike Faulkner ’21 was presented with the award in 2017-18.
 
Coffey is having a career year on the blue line, registering 19 points on six goals and 13 assists. He is fifth in the NEHC in points by a defenseman. Coffey has three game-winning goals this season, He logged a career-high three points on a goal and two assists against Johnson & Wales. Coffey also had multi-point games against Manhattanville and UMass Boston.  In 17 games against NEHC opponents, he has recorded 14 points on five goals and nine assists.
 
A two-time NEHC All-Academic selection, Coffey earned all-conference honors for the first time.  In 75 career games, he has 39 career points on 11 goals and 28 assists.
 
Maguyon is second on the team with 26 points on 14 goals and 12 assists. In 17 conference games, Maguyon has recorded 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists. He recorded a career-high four points twice this season. On Nov. 20, Maguyon matched a Hobart single-game record, netting a hat trick against Johnson and Wales. On Feb. 4, he matched another Hobart single-game record, with four assists in a win over Castleton. In total, Maguyon has recorded seven multi-point games this season. His three game-winning goals are tied for 18th in the nation. Maguyon was named the NEHC Player of the Week once.
 
Maguyon has played in 77 games during his career. He has 58 points on 31 goals and 27 assists.
 
A defenseman, Mourar has played in 23 games during his first varsity season. He tied for fourth on the team with 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. He leads Hobart and is eighth in the nation with four game-winning goals. Three of the four have come in the last three games. Mourar has 15 points on eight goals and seven assists in 17 games against NEHC opponents. He had a career-high three points on a goal and an assist in Hobart’s come from behind victory over New England College. In the comeback victory against Skidmore, the Spring City, Pa. native had the game-tying and game-winning goals. He has had six multi-point games. Mourar earned one NEHC Player of the Week Award.
 
Lindsay has made an instant impact on the blueline during his rookie campaign. Partnering with Coffey, he has recorded 16 points on three goals and 13 assists. A native of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Lindsay had 11 points on two goals and nine assists in 17 conference games. He logged a career-high three assists in Hobart’s victory over Johnson & Wales and has four multi-point games.
 
The Statesmen also had two all-rookie team selections in 2018-19, Zach Tyson and Liam Lascelle.
 
Hobart begins its quest for the Mariano Cup, the NEHC Tournament championship trophy, on Saturday when it welcomes Southern Maine to The Cooler. The quarterfinal is scheduled to face off at 4 p.m.
